Innovation and Development

The Innovation and Development Unit supports the Institute's Scientific Directorate in monitoring the Strategic Research Guidelines, in monitoring and reporting on current research, and in this context participates in the preparatory activities for the periodic institutional accreditation visits.

The Unit supports researchers in the preparation of the documentation required for the submission of research protocols to the Ethics Committee for its opinion. It participates in the management of the Research Information System and in the activities of feasibility verification of clinical trials. The methodological support to researchers is provided in collaboration with the Epidemiology and Statistics Unit of the Institute. The structure manages the administrative and contractual activities for the governance of spontaneous clinical trials and for third parties of the Institute. Within the structure there is the Grant Office function for the enhancement of the attractiveness of research funding, support for the development of partnerships and networking activities with national, European and international research centres.

In exercising its function of coordinating activities related to clinical research, the Innovation and Development Unit is in functional relation with the Clinical Studies Unit, which is staffed by dedicated nurses (research nurses) whose work is oriented towards the organisation and management of specific study nursing services as well as supporting the monitoring of clinical research activities for the Institute's profit and spontaneous studies.
