The ISNB Rehabilitation Medicine offers neurorehabilitation assistance to adult patients with disabling neurological diseases, through ordinary inpatient, day hospital and outpatient activities. It is actively involved in several corporate and inter-company PDTAs (brain tumours, ALS, Parkinson's disease, neuromuscular diseases, non-traumatic myelogenesis, ESA, haemorrhagic stroke).

Care activities

Inpatient activity is dedicated to patients with severe disabilities, admitted for cerebrovascular diseases, oncological diseases, neurodegenerative diseases and patients with severe spasticity. As part of its consultancy services for all the ISNB wards, the Rehabilitation Medicine unit plays a fundamental role in assessing, taking charge of and managing any post-degree rehabilitation pathways (or towards other rehabilitation wards outside the ISNB). Rehabilitation Medicine operates within the regional GRACER network, where it acts as a spoke and has a large number of patients with severe brain damage.
Rehabilitation Medicine also provides second-level outpatient services (Outpatient Clinic for the Evaluation and Treatment of Adult Spasticity, ALS Team). In particular, the outpatient clinic for the management of spasticity, a recognised reference point at regional and extra-regional level, deals with complex assessments, focal treatments with botulinum toxin and nerve blocks, and the management of patients with intrathecal baclofen infusers.

Research activities

The Rehabilitation Medicine unit participates in the study project on idiopathic normotensive hydrocephalus "Pro-Hydro", launched in 2015 in collaboration with the Neuromet (Metropolitan Neurological Clinic), Neurosurgery and Neuroradiology units and the Faculty of Engineering of Bologna. It also collaborates within the BoReALS group on the study and treatment of motor neuron diseases.
